 Understanding Art Begins with a SKETCHBOOK!

Don't be afraid to try and draw.  Just do your best. A Sketchbook measures growth over time. We all have to start somewhere! So pick up that pencil and draw! All will be okay :-)

WEEK 1
Subject: 5 Spoons drawn in VALUE...
Using pencil and showing complete VALUES compose a drawing that fill the whole sketchbook page.

WEEK 2
Subject: Realistic Clown - Line, Shape, Form - Elements of Art Practice. Using pencil and showing complete VALUES compose a drawing that fills the whole sketchbook page. You must draw from a photo of a real person that you turn into a clown. The teacher will provide a photo, but if you have a special person in mind to draw - please use that photo!

WEEK 3
Subject: 3 bugs, realistic (movement) - principles of design
Using pencil and showing complete VALUES compose a drawing that fills the whole sketchbook page. You must draw from a photo of a real bug NO CARTOONS! The teacher will provide a photo, but if you have a special person in mind to draw - please use that!

Subject #1:  Shoe, value, elements of art

WEEK 5
Subject #1:  3 coffee mugs, overlapping - value & composition, - elements of art

WEEK 6
Subject #1: a lamp and coffee mug with a shadow cast by the light of the lamp - composition, defined space, - elements of art

WEEK 7
Subject #1: face of a man - elements of art

WEEK 8
Subject #1: face of a woman - elements of art

WEEK 9
Subject #1:  Six objects such as leaves, keys, candy, spoons, jewelry, etc. overlapping (realistic, overlapping-principles of design) using pencil, etc.
Subject #2:  Free Choice Drawing - Using any materials you like complete a drawing that should last over 20 time on any subject you want to explore. 

WEEK 10
Subject 1:  reproduction of a masterpiece painting in pencil-realistic, shape, value - elements of art
Subject #2:  Free Choice Drawing - Using any materials you like complete a drawing that should last over 20 time on any subject you want to explore. 

WEEK 11
  Subject #1: Quilt Square - Make a 9 square block by making 3 rows of 3 2 1/2" in size each.  USE A RULER!!!!!!  Add patterns, designs and color to make it beautiful.  Creativity counts in this project ( - pattern, balance - principles of design)
